What’s Special About July 24th?

July 24th seems to be a popular day, being that it’s known as Amelia Earhart Day, National Drive-Thru Day, Tell an Old Joke Day, and Cousins Day.  So let’s review a little history about each of these occasions.

Amelia Earhart Day

Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897.  She went missing during an attempted flight around the world on July 2, 1937.  Amelia was a strong woman’s rights advocate.  She was also the first woman to fly around the Pacific alone.  There are many theories about what happened to Amelia and her navigator, Fred Noonan.  However, as of today there’s no concrete evidence supporting any theories.  The more logical explanation is that the plane ran out of gas and they crashed into the Pacific Ocean.

A great way to celebrate Amelia Earhart’s birthday is to read one of the many biographies written about her.  Or, you could watch the 2009 movie, “Amelia” which starred Hilary Swank.

National Drive-Thru Day

National Drive-Thru Day was created by Jack in the Box to celebrate the love of convenience by vehicle.  In today’s society, there are now drive-thru liquor stores, drive-thru banks, and drive-thru weddings.  There are even drive-thru services for businesses you wouldn’t think could pull it off, such as funeral homes, strip clubs, art galleries, and prayer booths.

Well, how are you going to celebrate National Drive-Thru Day?

Tell an Old Joke Day

I’m sure everyone knows a jokester, someone who likes to tell jokes all the time.  Well, not everyone tells jokes all year long, most of us wait for July 24 to tell a joke.  Some people also believe that jokes play an important role in our unconscious life.

In fact, Sigmund Freud wrote a book about it, The Joke and Its Relation to the Unconscious.  In his book he describes how humor affects our lives and that jokes satisfy our unconscious desires.  Regardless of whether you agree with Dr. Freud, you have to agree that a good joke is funny and enjoyable.

Cousins Day

We all have cousins, second cousins, third cousins, and first cousins twice removed.  If you’re like everyone else in the world, you spend less time with your cousins because of the daily grind in your world.  While we couldn’t find the origin or creator of this day, we still think it will be fun to celebrate.  Make Cousins Day special by planning an event with all your cousins this July 24th
